Expanded PTFE vs PTFE: What’s the difference?
The most unique fluoropolymer, expanded PTFE sheet, performs best in terms of temperature, chemical resistance, and non-stick qualities. Additionally, PTFE has the following advantages:
- Best cost: efficiency ratio
- The greatest operating temperature for any fluoroplastic is +260°C, which is maintained continuously.
- low-resistance surface
- exceptional electrical resistance
- the translucency of color when the appropriate quality of raw polymer is selected
Why is ePTFE used?
Since it is microporous and air-permeable, an expanded PTFE (ePTFE) tube is perfect for any applications that call for a permeable material. ePTFE is distinct from conventional PTFE as a result. The material has the feel of a smooth, spongy marshmallow and is flexible and bendable.
Expanded PTFE from expanded PTFE sheet supplier is frequently employed as tubing, cable, and sealing tape.
Gains from expanded PTFE
PTFE and expanded PTFE have comparable characteristics. The material can withstand working temperatures of up to 260°C and is fully non-toxic and sanitary. Additionally, ePTFE has the following advantages:
- remarkably high linear strength and chemical resistance
- to chemically inactive
- There are many porosity levels available. High, medium, and low densities
EPTFE applications
Expanded PTFE is perfect for use in medical devices, electronic insulators, high-performance filters, and a variety of other applications because of its permeable feature. This porous fluoroplastic is put into chemical pipe flanges in the oil and gas industry to smooth out any ridges and bumps in the pipes and create a truer seal.
Additionally, ePTFE is used to create an implantable mesh-like structure that is soft, strong, and flexible but also very porous. As a result, it provides an excellent material for vascular grafts, hernia repair, and other reconstructive surgery since, when implanted, body tissue may grow easily into it.
Applications requiring fluidic purification and environmental filtration are ideal for expanded PTFE. A project was considered to use ePTFE from expanded PTFE sheet manufacturer tubing to cleanse water. Our customer applied some Ozone gas through extended PTFE tubing, and ultimately part of it escaped into the iron-rich water and cleansed it. As a result, this unique fluoroplastic was used in conjunction with water filtration technologies to help offer clean, safe water.
