Get to Know About the Installation Steps of Braided Packing and PTFE Packing

Before fixing new packing, with the use of special tools the used packing should be removed completely and the box of packing should be mopped clean.

In order to see that if there is any part within the box of being off-center, you have to observe carefully. The box should be repaired or replaced in case of failure to be up to the required standard.

To seal the fluid select the right braided packing. With the packing, cutter cut the exact rigs.

While fitting, for valves cross-sections of packing should be used, preferably pre-pressed rings, a packing cross-section with a slight undersize (abt.0.3mm to 0.6mm) is recommended for pumps. The required leakage gap ensures the necessary higher starting leakage for dissipation of friction heat and lubrication.

There should be the installation of cut packing rings with the cut ends staggered by 90° each layer. To be pushed on the shaft, the rings should be axially and radially carefully opened. Rings can suffer damage through buckling if they are opened.

Try to fix rings in the stuffing box unless the gland has thread available to either about 50% in the case of pumps or about 25% the sealing packing thickness in the case of valves.

It is preferential to select two or more gasket of cushion plates, and mix them for the said fixing if there is a need to enhance the tight sealing performance.

Tighten the nuts by hand and press the rings home with the grand. we suggest the use of a torque wrench or a similar power measuring device in order to obtain a uniform and controlled pretension of the aramid packing.

You should try it under zero-load before you put it into the regular operation, and observe if there is anything abnormal. After you put it into normal operation, it is still important to observe carefully to see if there is any kind of serious leakage due to lack of compactness or if as a result of over compactness, there is friction-heat and the risk of ring burning.
